On December 29, 2022, the Hong Kong National Security forces arrested seven individuals affiliated with Stand News — a vital independent media outlet — over their alleged “conspiracy to publish seditious publications,” raided their newsroom, and froze nearly $8 million USD in their assets. The incident carries major implications to the city’s media and legal landscapes.

This virtual briefing features Thomas E. Kellogg (HKDC’s Advisor and the Executive Director of the Center for Asian Law at Georgetown University Law Center) and Mark L. Clifford (the President of the Committee for Freedom in Hong Kong). The briefing was moderated by Brian Leung, HKDC’s Executive Director.
